My name is Joy Rigberg and I am so excited to announce my upcoming monthly Moms Zone blog!

Each month, beginning in September, (well actually beginning right now with this blog : ) I’ll be sharing some educational secrets, stories, successes, tips and a whole lot more with all of you wonderful Moms Zone moms!

My intention with this blog is to make it as interactive as possible, meaning, you tell me what your current concerns are or what you’re struggling with, and that topic will be my focus for the month.

If at first you find that you’re a little shy, or possibly even too overwhelmed to know where to begin, don’t worry, because I have worked with and helped many children who struggle both at home and at school with things like:

…and more, so I have plenty of topics from which to begin! : )

So now a little about me: I began Conscious Joy Coaching a little more than a year ago with the intention of helping both parents and children to live a more consciously joyful life and to Reconnect with and Remember Their Innate Potential.

After obtaining my second Master’s Degree, this one in Counseling, I knew it was time to leave the classroom setting, which I had been in for more than 13 years, and work with children in a more conscious and authentic way. With this in mind, the universe led me to a woman who has become both my mentor, teacher and spiritual mother, and her name is Joyce Mills.

I could write blogs and blogs about Joyce’s experiences and accomplishments alone, but to save time I’ll give you just a little teaser; if you want to read more about this fabulous Fearless Woman, just click on the links.

Joyce Mills is the founder of the StoryPlay® Center in Scottsdale, AZ, she’s a nationally and internationally recognized storyteller, a keynote presenter, a licensed and certified Marriage and Family Therapist, a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor, and most recently, she’s been featured in Mary Ann Halpin’s new book; Fearless Women, Fearless Wisdom.

Joyce developed a strength based method of therapy and coaching called  StoryPlay® which has become the foundation of my Educational and Parent Coaching practice.

What I love most about this creative, multicultural, experiential, multisensory and transformational coaching process, is that it brings together three of my most favorite things: Play, metaphor and the elements of story, and creativity…and then draws on the natural inner resources, skills, and strengths of each individual, to effect positive change, problem solving and natural healing.

As I am a diverse, creative, multicultural kind of girl myself, I also implement into my coaching a dynamic variety of mindfulness and breath practices, body movement and energy work, an array and lifetime of teaching and travel stories and experiences, as well as consistent and constant new learnings. I am an open minded, humble student of life; I love to learn, I love to give, and I love the element of surprise!

Speaking of surprise, I’d like to leave a little element of mystery and surprise  for my next blog, so I’ve decided to end with an amazing quote by Michelangelo that sums up my beliefs about coaching…

We had made plans the week before to go hiking, and I was dressed in my hiking gear and ready to go.  As I was waiting for Jasmin to come out of her school, I watched the most adorable children exiting the building with these huge smiles on their faces as they saw their mom, dad, and other loved ones awaiting them.  I couldn’t help but smile along with them; witnessing such natural and pure expressions of love.

At this school the grades are dismissed in order from kindergarten to sixth, so Jasmin was one of the last ones to come out.  As she approached me I noticed that she was shivering and hugging herself to try and stay warm, while holding her jacket in her other hand.  I gave her a big hug and then offered to hold her oversized and very heavy backpack so she could put on her coat.  Then as we walked to my car she proceeded to tell me that she was freezing and she hated the cold.  Oh well I thought, there goes hiking…

So I immediately offered up a plan B, as I knew that she also loved to go to the mall.  She took me up on my offer without hesitation.

As I don’t know that end of town very well, I drove us to an indoor mall on my end of town, Scottsdale Fashion Square.  Our conversation flowed easily in the car and for the next couple of hours in the mall, as we walked, talked, and warmed ourselves with hot chocolate and cinnamon pretzel bits. 

Jasmin showed me some of her favorite accessories in stores such as Hot Topic and Claire’s, as well as how to make a teddy bear in the Build-A-Bear Workshop.  We talked about our favorite Disney characters in the Disney Store, and I learned about and saw some of the new fashionable teen styles, such as the Skinny Jeans, in Macy’s. 

For those two hours I felt like I was 13 again; light hearted and playful, without a care in the world. 

Jasmin is quite a remarkable young girl, and I look forward to many more excursions and shared experiences.  I know that I will learn just as much from her as she will from me, and I am very grateful that she is in my life!

The Positive Adult Leaders In Society, or P.A.L.S. Homeless Children’s Mentoring Program, will provide me with an opportunity to mentor a young person and encourage positive communication and interaction as well as offer guidance and support.

As a lifelong teacher and student, I look forward to many new self-growth opportunities, as well as facilitating strength-building, inspiration, healing and change, in a child or teen’s life.

After completing my Master’s in Counseling at Argosy University, I began searching the computer for topics that were in the area of my interests. I was looking for something, anything, that caught my attention. Well needless to say, I found what and who I was looking for without even knowing in advance what exactly that was.

I’ll share that juicy story with you all later in a later blog post!

Anyway, the end of the story is this: The universe led me to my incredible mentor, Joyce Mills, almost one year ago, and I have been training and working closely with her ever since!

Joyce is the creator of a model of therapy which has since evolved into a coaching and mentoring process. The model is called StoryPlay®.

StoryPlay® is a heart-centered, strength-based model, which includes creative approaches to improving productivity, life-balance, change, problem solving, healing, self-growth, and self-empowerment.

So, I am proud and honored to say that my Playful Practices are founded upon the StoryPlay® model, and the Creative Steppingstones, created by Dr. Joyce Mills!

Whether beginning kindergarten, junior high, or high school, a transition and change will be taking place; as each school year is a new school year.

As adults, most of us have probably experienced, on one level or another, some sort of fear or resistance to change and transition. Now, having lived through those tenuous school years ourselves, as well as through many other life changes and ‘new beginnings,’ we are probably better equipped today to self-nurture our way through these stressful times and situations. We may choose to comfort ourselves by practicing yoga, meditation, or Tai Chi, etc., or maybe we just simply book a reservation at the nearest spa for a relaxing sauna and massage. 

Well, our children may have not yet acquired or developed the helpful tools needed to cope through these times of transition, and they require just as much nurturing and support in their new school year venture as we would in any of our own life changes. 

With the creative, strength-building, motivational, and playful practices that are included in my Educational Coaching™ services, your child will be supported through this time of transition, and encouraged to reconnect to his and her own inner strengths and resources.
